10/13/2008 "Devil's Lake State Park is absolutely amazing, and just as awesome as their website says. My wife and I hiked for most of a day and enjoyed every part of it. The trails are secluded so you really get into the woods, not just along the lake. There's a section where you hike up a pretty steep set of rock stairs, well, you're actually scaling one of the 500 ft. cliffs, but when you've reached the top you'll see the Devil's Doorway and that makes it all the more amazing. As long as you're not afraid of heights climbing the cliff to see the rock formations up there is my highest recommendation. Parfrey's Glenn was closed when we were there due to flooding, but I've heard it's one of the best spots in the park. My wife and I climbed out onto Devil's Doorway and ate lunch and it really was breathtaking. I'm not sure I've seen a cooler park. I recommend this to any outdoors person, or even someone who just likes to hike once in a while. It's picture perfect, literally." - Ash Northfield, MN
09/21/2008 "Hello! My story is of years ago. It was the summers, 8-13 years of age. I am now 58. So do the math. Ha. Long long time ago. I am aching to come back and see how much it has changed. I remember the beautiful drive down into the park. Such suspense for a yong girl wanting to swim her summer away and meet a few boys. So many twists and turns. The cliffs were such a fun place to explore also. I loved the lake with it's sandy beach. ,my Mother would swim a long way out on the lake and float for over an hour. We could see the cabins on the other side of the lake, and I always wondered what they were like? I didi inherit her talend for floating. Ha. My father bought an airstream. "we called it the silver bullet", a pull behind and totally guatted the trailer and worked all winter threw on our new and beautiful trailer makeover. So here we were. My parents with their card club friends and all of us children. What a Blast! Of coarse swimming caps were all the go, with only a few two piece swim suits for the adults and the one piece for us kids. I had this wild swim cap with a large orange flower on it. Man, I was high fashion! Of coarse we loved going to the lodge and dancing the night away. Devils Lake was all we could think about the whole school year. We would spend 2 full weeks there because G.E. shutdown was always the first 2 weeks of August. I am older now and thinking about tent campin at Devils Lake. Sitting around the camp fire sounds wonderful to warm these wiery and older bones. To anyone who remembers the good old days, I send my hello's. I will write back soon. After my camping tent trip this fall of 2008. God Bless you all! Here is a toast to all you children dreaming of your next summer at the Devils Lke Park. Those dreams are bringing back the kid in me again." - Debra Morrison, Illinois
