Classic Experience

The year was 1951, and Joe and Vera Kaminski built their resort business around the popular "American plan" in which meals were included with lodging. The owners doubled as members of the house band too. In the 1960s, the next generation of Kaminskis took over, ushering in an era of expansion and big name performers, making Chula Visita the area's first nightclub.  Another 20 years passed, and grandson Mike Kaminski joined the business.  Today, the resort has more than 600 rooms and condos, expansive meeting space, indoor and outdoor waterparks, restaurants and an 18-hole golf course.

Chula Vista Resort Stories
03/31/2012Took the kids (4 of them) to Chula Vista over this past spring break. We went from Wednesday through Friday in order to stay away from the weekend crowd. Rented the townhouse - Upper floor with bunk beds and lower with a full kitchen, deck overseeing the golf course, and tons of room for up to 8 if necessary. Opted to not go with the hot tub package due to the knowing of we were not going to be in the room that often. We went all inclusive. Many may look at the price and cringe, as we did, but to be honest, it was so nice to not say no to the children every time they wanted a snack or drink. Just gave them the room number, already pre-paid and off they went. No restrictions which was so very nice.. The staff was very friendly and thoughtful. Always someone around if needed a question answered. Check in was a little chaotic. They truly do need more staff at the front desk when they start to get busy. We were able to check in two hours early and have the kids swim. Just couldn't use the food access until check in time which was not a big concern for us. Their water part was fantastic for all of us, adults and children alike. Very well trained lifeguards. Great first aid office. Very friendly wait staff in the buffet area and good food for a buffet. Changed it up on a daily basis which was nice. Is a definite must for a wonderful relaxing mini-vaca!! Would recommend Chula Vista for everyone!

01/06/2010me and my family stayed atg the resort from august 10 thru the 15 and we had everything... all inclusive everything! we stayed in the golf villas and it was 8 of us and we all slept well, the room was nice and spacious, we had a kitchen, living room, a deck and we got 2 tv's and a fire place. Me and my family enjoyed the yellow free fall slide the most. Every night we went to dinner and we had the crab leg dinner everynight, for free with our all inclusive package. Every food you could possibly want to eat...we ate. Crash landings Snack Bar was good(though i think they were getting upset that we kept coming back.) but hey, we had all inclusive and we weren't wastfull we just have a big family who loves to eat. I would say i give CHULA VISTA a 9.5/out of 10 we will definitly be coming there with the whole family this year! maybe even 2 weeks!

chula-vista-indoor-water-park-wi-dellsChula Vista Resort

Perched on the bluffs towering above the Wisconsin River, this resort has undergone a magical transformation over the past few years. New condos, golf course villas, an upscale steakhouse and an incredibly themed indoor water park -- Lost Rios. Inside this 80,000 square-foot Aztec paradise, you can race each other on the Matador Mat Racers or hang out in Mount Montezuma's giant rain forest. Not to be missed is the Flyan Myan Zip Coaster, the world's fastest and longest indoor water roller coaster.

great-wolf-indoor-waterparks-wi-dellsGreat Wolf Lodge

Great Wolf Lodge combines the rustic charm of a Northwoods lodge with the amenities you'd expect at a top-notch resort, with loads of dryland activities geared toward younger children too. Head to the resort's indoor water parks -- there are three of them, measuring a mammoth 100,000 square feet -- and there you'll find a range of rides that are family-pleasing. For the older kids and daredevil adults, the Howlin Tornado, a six-story high extreme tube ride, is the centerpiece. For the young ones, a four-story treehouse waterfort is irresistible.

kalahari-wisconsin-dells-indoor-waterparksKalahari Waterpark Resort Convention Center

This resort is distinguished by its authentic African art, a live animal exhibit with tiger cubs and baby kangaroos, and some of the largest freestanding condominiums in the area that include five bedrooms, four bathrooms, billiard room and theater room. But it's the indoor surf machine known as the FlowRider® that has made this place famous. Stand-up surf or boogie board on this ride, with 50,000 gallons of water flowing under you each minute to create a five-foot ocean-like wave. A close second in talk value is their Master Blaster uphill water roller coaster. This indoor water park comes in at a whopping 125,000 square feet.

wilderness-resort-wi-dells-indoor-water-parksWilderness Hotel & Golf Resort

Bigger is better here, no doubt about it. The Wilderness Resort is America's largest indoor/outdoor combination water park resort, with three massive indoor water parks totaling 250,000 square feet and another three outdoor to match. Guests tan year-round in the Wild WaterDome with its see-through roof, when they're not in family-raft racing rides or bobbing in the country's largest indoor wave pool that is. Klondike Kavern is famous for its lazy river and Hurricane water raft ride. Wild West Waterpark is fun for all ages and features the Fantastic Voyage family raft ride.

mt-olympus-indoor-water-parksMt. Olympus Water & Theme Parks

While this hotel and theme park complex has a decidedly Greek theme going, the indoor water park draws on an eclectic mix of imagery to get the fun started. Towering tube slides named for killer snakes like Cobra, Diamondback, Anaconda and Boa; a Mayan raging river; a pirate ship complete with tattered sails, tunnels and water slides for the little ones; and a jungle water walk are the most popular attractions here.

Of course, these handful of water parks are just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. The nice thing about Wisconsin Dells is that, if you prefer cozier surroundings in a water park, they've got that too. So you choose - big, small, something in between, or all of the above.

Could This Be The Next French Riviera?
04/01/2010

There's no denying the Dells is "kid central." Families, extended families, family reunion groups, groups of friends with children in tow -- you get the picture -- have made the Dells their preferred vacation hangout. So could the rumblings be true, that Wisconsin Dells has an alter ego that is high-end and geared towards grown-ups? Here's how the evidence stacks up.

Luxury Wisconsin Dells Resorts

Luxury Digs

Sure, the water park resorts are grand, but try a golf villa at Chula Vista Resort or a private adults-only spa villa at Sundara Inn & Spa, and you'll know you've arrived. These are so sophisticated and so richly appointed, you probably won't want to leave.

Wollersheim Winery - Dells Area WineriesFINE WINE

Not everyone can afford to hop a plane to Italy, or France, or Napa Valley for that matter to indulge their taste for fine wine. But certainly a trip to Prairie du Sac, just a half-hour drive from the Dells, should be manageable. There you'll find the Wollersheim Winery in all its historic splendor. Originally established in the 1840s by Hungarian Count Agoston Haraszthy no less, and nestled in the hills overlooking the Wisconsin River valley, this property features buildings with incredible character, outdoor seating with views to the vineyard, lovely gardens and a new tasting room. There's a new winery in Wisconsin Dells too - it's called Fawn Creek Winery. Or, if you prefer your wine served with a fine meal, ask to see the wine list at Field's at the Wilderness or the Del-Bar. Both restaurants in Wisconsin Dells were designed by a protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright, and both have graced the pages of Wine Spectator Magazine.

Wisconsin Dells Spas - Spa SerenityIndulgent Spa Services

Celebrities insist on it and so must you. It's a spa service to soothe those jangled nerves and make your skin glow. At Spa Serenity (don't you just love the name!), go for the "A Night Out Facial." At Sundara Inn & Spa, the Slimming Body Wrap and Bath Salt treatment seems like something a starlet would have before walking the red carpet. Even if you're vacationing at Wisconsin Dells water park hotels like Chula Vista, the Wilderness or Kalahari, sneak away to their on-site spa for a little pampering that's good for you.

Alpha Beta Karma - Wisconsin DellsDesigner Shopping

Fashionistas never eschew style simply because they're on vacation.  In fact, it's quite the contrary - they're on the look-out for on-trend finds they won't find closer to home.  The Wisconsin Dells shopping itinerary for any self-respecting fashionista must include stops at Artistic Expressions Gift Gallery for artisan jewelry and textiles, Thirty Below Leather for a new handbag, Alpha Beta Karma for designer fashion straight from east and west coast designers and Cranberry Connections for scarves and totes to complete the outfit.

Dells Golf CoursesChampionship Golf

It's almost unimaginable that a community of just 20 square miles could have three championship golf courses. Yet, it does. Reserve a tee time at Wild Rock Golf Club, Trappers Turn Golf Club, Cold Water Canyon Golf Course at Chula Vista Resort or all three and then golf to your heart's content.

Waterpark Essentials: Must-Haves To Make The Most Of Your Day In The Dells
05/15/2010

dells-water-park-must-haves-55Pack Light — Leave valuables at home. If you're wearing your swimsuit, pack dry clothes for the ride home.

Parking Location — Write down where you parked your car and tuck the note inside your beach bag. With so much fun to think about, this would be an easy one to forget.

Sunscreen — When you're running around having a ball, it's easy to ignore the effects of the sun. Apply waterproof sunscreen generously and often. Remember, this applies to a lot of indoor waterparks, too!

Footwear — With literally acres of waterslides to experience, your feet will be on the move. Swim socks are a good investment, because you can keep them on during the rides. Or bring along flip flops that can be stowed in special shelving units set up at the base of most rides.

Sun Glasses with Strap — Give your eyes a break. Sun reflecting off water makes sun glasses more than merely a fashion statement. They're great for people watching too.

Swimsuits, Cover-ups, Towels — No directions required.

Quarters — Handy storage lockers for all your other essentials are plentiful. All they require are a few quarters. Nice value!

Extra Set of Car Keys — After a long day of fun, no one wants to find they've misplaced their car keys.
