Spring Break in the Dells is an Event Unto Itself

Officially, Wisconsin Dells hosts one spring event and it's called Automotion. It's a great little car show that's turned into a great big car show. Unofficially, they host a second spring event, and it's called spring break. Who would have thought even five years ago that Wisconsin Dells would be a hot spring break destination? Mind you, we're not talking exclusively college students. We're talking families, and lots of them.

It started innocently enough, according to Romy Snyder, who heads up the local Visitor Bureau. Families with school-age children, from grade-schoolers to teenagers, were looking for a place to chill out during the school break without getting on a plane or a cruise ship. The indoor waterpark resorts were just the ticket. "It was a 'perfect storm' scenario -- close by, good value, enough variety to satisfy the entire family and the worl'’s best waterparks. And when it caught on, this place was jumping," said Snyder.

So, if you're looking for a cure for cabin fever that's kid-friendly and parent-approved, Wisconsin Dells may be the hot spot you've been looking for. A word of advice -- make your reservations early. That way you won't disappoint the kids.
