Golf is a Go
Perhaps you’ve heard: Wild Rock Golf Club was selected by the United States Golf Association to host a qualifying round for the 2019 U.S. Open on May 8. This magnificent 18-hole course, built around and through a former quarry, was designed by the same duo; Dr. Mike Hurdzan & Dana Fry, who created the site of last year’s U.S. Open, Erin Hills near Milwaukee. A round of golf at Wild Rock will give any golfer bragging rights even if you’re nowhere near the course record of 65. Head to the clubhouse to brag about your best shots over a Bunker Burger topped with cheese curds and bacon, followed by a drink on the veranda.
Give yourself the green light to play the six other courses in the area too. Trappers Turn Golf Club earned 4.5 stars from Golf Digest try the Sunday brunch, trust us. The Scottish links-style Cold Water Canyon course has PGA instruction available and they serve a great Friday night fish fry at their Tavern Restaurant, and Christmas Mountain Village Golf Course offers golfers both an 18-hole and nine-hole course, plus the Saturday night prime rib at Mulligan’s Bar N’ Grill is a must.
Speaking of nine-hole courses, Fairfield Hills Golf Course & Driving Range in nearby Baraboo was bestowed a nice honor - it was awarded the Golf Course Owners of Wisconsin’s 2018 “Golf Course of the Year” ranking in the nine-hole category.
Two more nine-hole courses that are ideal for any age or skill level: The par 36 Spring Brook Golf Course and The Woods Short Course at Wild Rock.
