Comfort food and seasonal brews are always a nice pairing in the fall, so let’s start there. First, for drinks, we recommend Prairie Hawk Winery for their Prairie Hawk Hard Cider made with locally grown apples and Wollersheim Winery & Distillery for their Wisconsin Apple Brandy made from Wisconsin apples and aged in Wisconsin oak barrels. Baraboo Bluff Winery’s Cloud 9 estate wine is a sweet, mellow, smooth white, while fans of Fawn Creek Winery eagerly await the fall release of the blackberry-flavored Merlot appropriately labeled Black Bear-y.
For brews, Dells Brewing Co. is known for its Kilbourn Hop Ale which hearkens to when the first hop farms in the area appeared back to the mid-1800s.
Comfort food is the name of the game at B-Lux Grill & Bar. Everything on the menu is crafted from scratch with lots of locally sourced ingredients. Because Wisconsin is “America’s Dairyland,” start with the beer battered Ellsworth Creamery Cheese Curds and finish with a decadent shake or malt for dessert. What you nosh on in between is totally up to you.
Now let’s move on to farm-to-table menus. The rock star restaurant in this category has to be High Rock Café, with a “season’s freshest” menu that surprises and delights with its recipes using classic seasonal ingredients in unexpected ways.
Staying with the farm theme for a moment more, make your way to Country Bumpkin Farm Market & Lil' Bumpkin Play Village for produce and fruits grown using sustainable farming practices. If the kids are along, make time for the corn maze, play village, petting farm and pumpkin picking.
