What to Do on Your Last-Minute Getaway
Given time is of the essence, we’re going to boil down a last-minute family getaway for you this way: plan your visit around a waterpark, with some classic outdoor dry-land diversions tossed in for good measure. Yes, it’s that simple!
Let’s start with the waterparks. Spend the night at a waterpark resort to load up on the watersliding fun. There’s Wilderness Resort, Great Wolf Lodge, Kalahari Resort Waterparks, Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park and Chula Vista Resort. And those are just the big five, with lots of mid-sized resorts offering water activities too.
Fan out from the waterparks for a few hours of fun at other attractions. A scenic tour of the Wisconsin River is a good starting point. Take your pick of tour boats, Duck tours or jet boats. Play some mini golf at Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf or Timber Falls Adventure Park. Zip-around in go-karts at Adare Go Carts or Big Chief’s Go-Karts. Talk to the animals at Timbavati Wildlife Park, Wisconsin Deer Park, and Country Bumpkin Farm Market & Lil' Bumpkin Play Village. And if rain shows up on the radar, there are tons of indoor activities to keep the kids happily occupied too, including Knucklehead’s Trampoline Park with bowling and rides, Tom Foolerys Adventure Park, Wild Fun Zone, Wizard Quest, and the Tommy Bartlett Exploratory – Interactive Science Center.
The kids will clamor for a few souvenirs and that’s where Aunt Jenny’s Got-It-All Store comes in, along with Parsons Indian Trading Post and Winnebago Gift Shop.
Don’t forget to stock up on fudge and cheese while you’re in the Dells, saving some for the ride home. Yum!
There you have it, a last-minute getaway that won’t feel last minute at all.
